LOUDON — Plans for a new Dollar General store at the intersection of Route 106 and Route 129, which have been in the works for the last few months, were approved by the planning board last week.

In October, developers were told one of the last checklist items they had to do was change the colors of the building to more neutral tones, like grays.

“It makes the building a little more muted and a little more traditional for the area,” said Matt Smith, an engineer at Bohler Engineering who is working on the project, said during the Thursday meeting.

The building will be 9,100-square-feet. Operating hours would be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with deliveries would being made once a week.

Access to the site would be from Route 106, which caused some concern for the planning board during its discussion at its September meeting.

Chairman Tom Dow said during that meeting he thought a driveway should be set up onto Route 129 as well as a connection.

“I just feel as a safety measure ... that the best thing to be done there is to provide that (driveway) off 129 not later, now,” he said.

The state’s Department of Transportation approved the driveway permit for the site, which means based on its assessment, there were no safety risks having an entrance there.

Developers have agreed to put a note on their plans that an extended driveway will be built out on the neighboring plot to Route 129 when that’s developed.

Along with safety, this will also prevent through access to the sites.

“We’re trying to make sure we have a through street and not a dead-end street,” said Planning Board Vice Chairman Stanley Prescott in October.

The store will be located at 169 King St.

The roughly 7,500-square-foot store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dollar General operates more than a dozen stores in New Hampshire.
