NH Club News: Hooksett club set to install officers, distribute wreathsNovember 22. 2017 10:11PM
HOOKSETT — The Hooksett Garden Club will install new officers for 2018-2019 during a ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Hooksett Public Library, which will be conducted by Joyce Kimball, president of the New Hampshire Federation of Garden Clubs.
At the club’s October meeting — the last regular business meeting of 2017 — members turned in holiday wreath sales packets. Those who purchased wreaths and plan to pick them up may do so between 8 and 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the library, 31 Mount St Mary’s Way. The wreath sale is one of two major fundraisers for the club.
Last month’s meeting included a program by Chris LaValley of LaValley Farm in Hooksett on “Preventing Disease in Plants.” LaValley, owner of the 70-acre farm, spoke about how disease management is all about technique and strategy.
Members also brought in pajamas and books to be donated to the Kiwanis Kids Kloset in Hooksett. This collection is taken annually at the October meeting, and this year, 25 pairs of pajamas and 10 books were collected.
The club is a member of the NHFGC and National Garden Clubs. For more information, go to www.hooksettnhgardenclub.org, email email@example.com or follow the club at Facebook.com/Hooksett Garden Club.
Atkinson club to host annual greens, gift sale
ATKINSON — The Atkinson Garden Club invites the public to its annual Holiday Greens and Gifts Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Atkinson Community Center, 4 Main St.
Garden club members have been hard at work for months preparing their creations. The club says best-sellers include decorated tabletop holly trees, kissing balls and centerpieces with candles, along with traditional wreaths and swags with hand-tied bows of red, burgundy, eggshell or gold. Freshly harvested bundles of greens also will be available. Hand-crafted pine cone owls with hats and scarves and festive wine bottle adornments will be among the gifts for sale.
A raffle is planned for a beach-themed basket. The club says the basket is actually a wheeled cooler, which is overflowing with treats, activities, beach towels and other items.
The club says preorders are essential. Order forms may be found and orders placed at the Kimball Library, 5 Academy Ave., or the Atkinson Community Center. Forms also may be printed at http://atkinsongardenclub.com and mailed to Atkinson Garden Club, P.O. Box 571, Atkinson, NH 03811. Orders also may be called in to Marnie Finn at 489-1380.
Derry Garden Club plans annual greens workshop
DERRY — The Derry Garden Club’s next meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the Derry Boys and Girls Club, 40 Hampstead Road.
The meeting will be the club’s annual greens workshop with Alison Kennery, who will demonstrate wreath-making. Members should bring greens to share and their own container to create a holiday piece for the home.
Members also will make a small arrangement in a mug to donate to Meals on Wheels from the Derry Garden Club. A potluck luncheon with dessert and beverages will be served.
