NHIAA Roundup: Graham, Portsmouth make it four straight

Senior guard Cody Graham scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as the Portsmouth High School boys’ basketball team extended its Division I winning streak to four games by beating Pinkerton Academy 72-56 Tuesday night in Portsmouth.

The Clippers, who won last year’s Division I championship, played without forward Alex Tavares (ankle), but improved to 4-1. Pinkerton (1-3) was outscored 46-32 in the second half and lost its third straight.

Sam Goy led Pinkerton with 19 points. The Astros received 10-point efforts from both Cason Giordano and Jack Potvin.

Souhegan 70, West 58: In Amherst, Anderson Geffard poured in 16 points and was one of four Souhegan players to score in double figures, joining Matt McCool (14), Max Leonard (11) and Ryan Hickey (10). The Sabers (2-3) outscored the Blue Knights (2-3) 22-4 in the second quarter. Gob Gob scored 12 for West.

Alvirne 62, Nashua North 36: In Hudson, Max Bonney-Liles collected 17 points, six rebounds and four steals to help the Broncos improve to 4-1. Joe Canelas added 13 points and seven rebounds for Alvirne. North fell to 0-3.

Merrimack Valley 54, Lebanon 44: In Lebanon, Merrimack Valley raised its Division II record to 5-0 by winning at Lebanon for the first time since 1997.

Lebanon, last year’s Division II champion, fell to 4-2.

Kennett 61, Bishop Brady 51: In Conway, Colby Livingston scored 14 and Alex Butts added 12 to lead Kennett (1-4). Bishop Brady fell to 0-3.

Timberlane 46, Windham 45: In Plaistow, Connor Schott scored all of his 12 points in the second half — including each of his six free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter — to lead the Owls (4-1). Windham (1-4) received 13 points from Thomas Splagounis.

Monadnock 85, Hillsboro-Deering 38: In Swanzey, Joe Minson scored 28 of his game-high 36 points in the first half to help the Huskies (6-2) pull away. Hillsboro-Deering fell to 0-5.

Derryfield 49, Epping 47: In Epping, sophomore guard Max Byron came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points to help Derryfield remain unbeaten (5-0). Andrew Dubreuil added 15 for the Cougars.

The Blue Devils (3-2) took possession with 6.7 second to play after a missed free-throw attempt, but failed to get a shot off before the final buzzer and had their three-game winning streak come to an end. Doug Nadeau led Epping with 16.

Merrimack 44, Bishop Guertin 40: In Nashua, Ian Cummings tossed in a game-high 20 points to help Merrimack even its record at 2-2. Jared Dyer added 10 points for the Tomahawks. Yannis Nyantengi led BG with 14. The Cardinals are winless in four Division I games.

Girls’ basketball

Winnacunnet 34, Central 24: In Hampton, Winnacunnet held Central to six points in the first half and improved to 5-1 in Division I. Central (4-2) trailed 19-6 at halftime and 22-14 after three quarters. Shae Rix led the Little Green with seven points.

Hopkinton 62, Winnisquam 25: In Hopkinton, Taylor Signor and Katie Meserve each scored a team-high 12 points to help the Hawks (6-2) stretch their winning streak to six games. Amelia Thomas added 10 points for Hopkinton. Meg Cote led Winnisquam with seven. The Bears dropped to 1-6

Hollis/Brookline 60, Kearsarge 32: In Hollis, the Cavaliers (6-1) received 24 points and 11 rebounds from Brodie Kelley, and 22 points and 11 rebounds from Joanna Balsamo. Elizabeth Bonnette added nine points and eight rebounds. Madi Courser led Kearsarge (3-4) with 12.

Londonderry 59, Concord 34: In Londonderry, Ashley Rourke tossed in four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Lancers (2-4). Courtney Shay added 17 for Londonderry, which led 32-12 at the half. Concord dropped to 1-4.

Bedford 57, Salem 27: In Salem, Bedford received a game-high 16 points from Clare Driscoll and raised its Division I record to 7-0. Salem dropped to 2-4. Bedford will play Bishop Guertin, last year’s Division I champion, Tuesday night in Bedford.

Windham 67, Timberlane 28: In Windham, senior Kaleigh Walsh led all scorers with 19 points and junior Ali Schiebel added 14 for the Jaguars (5-1). Chloe Cashin led Timberlane (3-3) with eight.

Monadnock 51, Hillsboro-Deering 17: In Hillsboro, Bri Broderick scored 17 points and Gwen Simpson finished with 10 for the Huskies, who raised their record to 8-0. Hillsboro-Deering slipped to 0-8.

Exeter 69, Spaulding 53: In Exeter, the Blue Hawks beat the Red Raiders for the second time this season to climb over the .500 mark at 3-2.

Spaulding slipped to 2-3. Shea Gitau led the Red Raiders with 19 points. Phoebe Downer added 10 for Spaulding.

Boys’ hockey

Keene 8, Alvirne 2: In Tyngsborough, Mass., Owen Haas and Dimitri Seger each scored twice for the Blackbirds (4-1-1). Justin Carboneau and Jake Natdla netted the Alvirne (1-4) goals.
