LONDONDERRY - A late-night fire Monday damaged the roof and bay doors of a commercial garage.

Firefighters were called to 347 Rockingham Road about 10:45 p.m. and found fire in the L-Town Garage on the Manchester line, across the street from Backyard Brewery & Kitchen.

Division Fire Chief Brian Johnson said heavy smoke was showing from the garage base with flames engulfing much of the rear of the five-bay business.

Firefighters had to cut open some bay doors to access the blaze, which had spread into the ceiling.

It appears the fire started in a mezzanine area above some of the bays, Johnson said.

“The only challenge we had was with the cold weather. We had a hydrant right in front of the building, (but) with the cold weather we had trouble with that being frozen,” Johnson added. “We ended up laying about 1,200 feet of hose down the road to the next hydrant.”

The building was heavily damaged, along with several vehicles inside. No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by Auburn, Derry and Manchester.
