Police: Manchester man walking in road had crack cocaine

MANCHESTER — A city man was arrested Wednesday evening after police patrolling Barry Avenue behind Mike’s Pub said they saw him walking in the middle of the street and then found he had crack cocaine when they questioned him.

Michael Hughes, 27, was arrested ay 4:55 p.m., charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, police said.

Officers who spoke with him about a violation for being a pedestrian in the road after they saw him walking towards Lake Avenue said Hughes acted nervous and kept tapping his pant leg. When he consented to a search, police said, the officers found nine bags of crack cocaine totalling 4.2 grams in his pocket.

Hughes was scheduled to be arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court North on Thursday.
