Hockey Hall: UNH, Maine play to tie in hockey

The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team’s winless streak reached eight games with Friday night’s 2-2 tie against the University of Maine at Alfond Arena.

Jason Salvaggio and Eric MacAdams scored for UNH, which is 0-6-2 in its last eight contests. The Wildcats (9-11-3 overall, 4-7-2 Hockey East) trailed 2-1 before MacAdams collected his goal 1:08 into the final period. Salvaggio and Max Gildon assisted on the goal. Gildon had two assists in the game.

The Wildcats outshot the Black Bears 7-1 in overtime. The tie ended UNH’s six-game winning streak against Maine.

Patrick Holway and Daniel Perez scored for Maine (12-9-3, 6-6-2). Holway opened the scoring at 3:25 of the first period, and Perez doubled Maine’s lead at 17:33 of the second. UNH cut its deficit in half when Salvaggio scored with 3.3 seconds remaining in the second.

Danny Tirone made 33 saves for the Wildcats. Jeremy Swayman stopped 31 shots for the Black Bears.

UNH was scoreless in five power-play opportunities. Maine was 0 for 4 when UNH was short-handed.

The teams will meet again tonight (7:30) at Alfond Arena.
