NH got it right

February 08. 2018 10:07PM

To the Editor: I’m pleased that New Hampshire’s siting board took statements from New Hampshire individuals seriously, and considered the objections and opposition of 29 of the 31 towns along the Northern Pass route. I applaud your engaged citizenry and your attentive siting board.

I’m also sorry that Massachusetts’ time pressures for acquiring enough renewable energy by 2020 to meet our legislated renewables goals became your problem. It would be more neighborly if we had focused on filling our 2020 renewable electricity shortfall with small in-state renewables projects. Small distributed projects are easier to accomplish in the short term than massive, complicated projects that can generate all types of issues and disagreements. Moreover, our 2020 goal is eminently fulfillable via small projects.

JUDY WEISS
