Hockey East: UNH, UVM tie 2-2

DURHAM -- Marcus Vela's third-period power-play goal helped the University of New Hampshire earn a 2-2 tie with the University of Vermont in men's Hockey East play Saturday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham.

UNH drew one and lost one this weekend on a tribute weekend to retiring coach Dick Umile.

Vela assisted on Ara Nazarian's first-period goal that gave UNH a 1-0 lead. Charlie Kelleher assisted.

Vermont scored twice in the third period to take the lead. Max Kaufman scored 41 seconds into the final frame, assisted by Liam Coughlin and Jarrid Privitera, to make it 1-1, and Privitera scored at 7:59, from Owen Grant, to make it 2-1.

Kelleher and Nazarian assisted on Vela's tying goal, which came at 17:26 of the third period. UNH outshot Vermont, 41-38.

Danny Tirone made 36 saves for UNH (5-10-5 Hockey East, 10-15-5 overall), and Stefanos Lekkas stopped 39 shots for Vermont (6-9-5 Hockey East, 10-15-5 overall).

UNH is home for a game against Maine on Wednesday night at 7. The Wildcats visit Merrimack College on Friday night.
