Pair charged with growing marijuana in Merrimack basement

MERRIMACK — A search of a Peter Road home at the end of January has led to drug manufacturing charges for residents of the home, police said.

Charged with manufacture of a controlled drug, possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled drug and being common nuisances were Joseph Gardner, 38, and Kimberly Gardner, 39, both of 28 Peter Road, police said.

Police officers, DEA agents and members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Street Crime Task Force searched the home Jan. 31, police said, and found a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation in the basement.

The operation included specialized watering, lighting and ventilation systems along with a large quantity of harvested marijuana and other suspected controlled drugs, police said.

Joseph Gardner refused bail, while Kimberly Gardner’s bail was set at $10,000 cash. They were arraigned Feb. 1, police said.
