WINCHESTER — A dog and a cat were killed in a mobile home fire Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to 129 Elm St. in Winchester around 8:30 p.m., said Winchester Fire Department Assistant Chief John Stephens.

“When we got there it was pretty much fully involved,” Stephens said.

Richard Pratt of Winchester owned the mobile home, Stephens said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have started at the furnace.

The forced hot air furnace was outside of the mobile home.

“It all burnt on that back wall. And once it got inside it went right through like a chimney,” Stephens said.

It took firefighters three hours to bring the fire under control, Stephens said, due to fire getting trapped inside the multi-layered roof.

No one was injured, but the homeowners lost both their pets in the fire, he said.
