No on 13 in Kingston

February 18. 2018 1:29AM

To the Editor: In 2008, the Town of Kingston agreed with Warrant Article 15 to "purchase the land and five (5) buildings now owned by the Newburyport, Mass., YWCA, located at 24 Main St., at the corner of Wadleigh Point Road, for municipal use. This parcel consists of 3.676 acres with approximately 231± feet of water frontage on Kingston (Great) Lake, Town Tax Map U5, Lot 62."

Before the deliberative session, the 2018 warrant article 13 read "plans for a new centrally located Fire Station located at 24 Main Street, Map U5/Lot 62." It seems to me the description of the location of the proposed fire station was lacking, and very misleading. At 24 Main St., we have the recreation center with #24 Main on the door, then Bolton's restaurant on parcel 61, and then the proposed location for the new fire station.

Yes it is #24 Main St. on the tax map, but the proposed location is actually the treed area at the corner of Wadleigh Point Road, with approximately 231± feet of water frontage on Kingston (Great) Lake. We all have stories of being denied a town permit, but for the town to ask to build a fire station on property with lake frontage is just insane. Vote no on article 13.
