Northern Pass gets final, needed Canadian permits

The Northern Pass project secured Tuesday final permits needed on the Canadian side of the border for the massive project to bring hydroelectric power from Hydro-Quebec down through New Hampshire and on to the New England power grid.

The National Energy Board, Canada’s independent federal regulatory agency, made Northern Pass the only project of its kind in New England to have Canadian permits in hand.

In December, the leadership of the Quebec province had given the project its blessing.

Northern Pass officials here have asked the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee to reconsider last month’s decision to reject permits needed in New Hampshire.

The project has already been granted a presidential permit from the federal government that’s needed to connect Hydro-Quebec to this transmission line at the Canadian border.
