Veterans, active duty service members and their spouses are eligible to enter The American Legion’s National Poppy Day 2018 Veteranpreneur Contest.

Entrants are to submit completed poppy-themed products; examples could include notecards or hats. The winning product will be sold in the 2019 Poppy Shop of the American Legion Flag & Emblem Sales website and catalog; the net proceeds go to help veterans, active duty service members, and veteran and military families.

The product submissions will be reviewed by the contest judges, and as many as four finalists could be selected. A TV broadcast on Thursday, May 24, will allow viewers the chance to vote for their favorite.

The contest winner — who will be announced on Friday, May 25, National Poppy Day — will receive a production order, and must sign a sales agreement.

To enter, contestants must fill out the entry form at They must also mail their products — and a copy of their DD 214, their military ID or their spouse’s DD 214 — to Veteranpreneur Contest, 9720 Capital Court, Suite 400, Manassas, VA 20110, so that The American Legion receives the submissions by April 25, 2018. Birthdays and Social Security numbers need to be redacted from the DD 214 forms.

The products must include a red poppy in their design, and their wholesale price must not be greater than $30. The products must also be good candidates for replication and retail.

According to The American Legion website, “all entries become property of The American Legion and will not be returned.”
