Men's Basketball: St. Anselm ousted from tournament

The St. Anselm men’s basketball team’s season is over. The Hawks were beaten by St. Rose 83-71 on Saturday night in a first-round NCAA East Region contest at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.

St. Anselm, making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAAs, fell behind by double digits midway through the second half and could never threaten. The Hawks finished 22-9 overall.

Senior Taylor Fortin led St. Anselm with 18 points in his final college game. Freshman Chris Paul added 16 points, Gustav Suhr-Jessen 12 and Tim Guers, the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, had 10.

The Hawks were the region’s fourth seed. Fifth-seeded St. Rose was led by Matt Cerutti, who had 21 points.
