Visiting Angels top Luigi's to win 40-plus title

Visiting Angels won the 40+ Hockey League’s Amoskeag Cup on Friday night with a 6-2 win over Luigi’s Pizza in the championship game.

Visiting Angels earned the trip to the Manchester 40+ Hockey League’s championship game with their 7-2 win over Atlas Precision Metal Fabricators in the semifinals played last Friday at JFK Coliseum in Manchester.

VA jumped off to a 4-0 lead after one period. They then held on as Atlas pressed and made it 4-2 after two. VA then sealed the win with three third period goals. Mike Dunne and Bruce Belanger led the way for the Angels as each notched a hat trick. Dan LaBerge had his team’s other goal. Steve Chabot chipped in with three assists and Mike Mailloux had two. Atlas got goals from Mike Van Uden and Jim Michael. Rocky Desrosiers made 31 saves for VA and Scott Greer had 32 for Atlas.

The second semifinal game saw Luigi’s Pizza knock off LeClerc State Farm Insurance 7-3 to earn their trip to the championship game, which was played Friday night.

With Luigi’s leading 4-2 after two periods, LeClerc unleashed a 17-shot onslaught in the third period. While Shane Burgess was turning aside all 17, Luigi’s added three goals to make it a 7-3 final. Mike Berube and Mike Gamache each tallied twice for the winners. Also scoring were Tim Pollock, Eric Grant and team captain Craig Beck. Roger Lajeunesse and Ken Proulx chipped in with two assists each. Burgess topped off a fine night in the Luigi’s net by ending up with 37 saves. Dave Anstey had 30 for LeClerc.
