College Roundup: St. Anselm attack ties school lacrosse mark

Senior attack Meaghan Sheehy tied the program record with 11 points, including the 100th of her career, as the St. Anselm College women's lacrosse team eased past Southern Connecticut State University, 19-8, in its home and Northeast-10 Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.
The senior tallied five goals and six assists for St. Anselm (3-2, 1-0 NE10), which has won all 17 all-time meetings with Southern Connecticut (2-3, 1-1 NE10).
Junior Molly Beck recorded three goals and one assist, while also grabbing a game-high six draw controls. Senior Marta Versprille scored three times, snagged three ground balls and five draw controls for the Hawks, while Emma Palumbo, Erica Mattila and Breda Holland each netted two goals.
Adelphi 17, SNHU 4: At Garden City, N.Y., junior Kristin Wilder scored a pair of goals and senior Kennedy Daziel of East Hampstead notched a goal and an assist for SNHU.
Adelphi 15, St. Anselm 8: At Garden City, N.Y., junior Patrick Sweeney paced the Hawks with a goal and two assists.
Sweeney reached 50 career goals in the loss, chipping in with two assists. Freshman Matt Ward fired home two goals, matching senior Ryan Hesseltine and his goal output. James Righini, Xavier Quinn and Aaron Palys rounded out the scoresheet for the Hawks (1-1), ranked 17th in the nation.
New England College 12, Mount Ida 9: At Newton, Mass., freshman Charles Hacking of Canterbury scored five goals, including three tallies during a decisive third quarter run, to lead New England College .
Senior Matt Richard of Weare added two goals and an assist in the win for New England College, which received a marker and four assists from Parker along with a tally and two helpers from Cotoni.
Junior William Platt picked up the win in goal for New England College with a 12-save effort, while senior Cam Hayward of Derry made 12 stops in 58-plus minutes of play in the setback for Mount Ida.
Pace 17, SNHU 9: At Pleasantville, N.Y., senior Chris West notched a career-best four points with two goals and two assists, and classmate Michael Brawley made a career-high 17 saves.
Seniors Mark Beirne of Hooksett and Corey Cairo each scored two goals, while junior Tom Schutz dished a pair of assists. Senior Cam Rewucki of Dover also registered two points with a goal and an assist.
St. John's 12, Dartmouth 5: At Queens, N.Y., Matt Paul provided a pair of goals for visiting Dartmouth. Jack Korzelius, George Prince and Liam O'Connell each scored a goal, while Ben Martin and Trevor Ballantyne had an assist apiece. In net, George Christopher made 12 saves.
Dartmouth 5, Eastern Kentucky 1: At Houston, Taylor Ward's two-run homer was the key hit for the Big Green.
Freshman Shelby Wilkison threw a complete game, allowing one hit and one run, striking out 11 and walking two.
Dartmouth 2, Houston 1: At Houston, Delaney Marshall scored Claire Bird with an eighth-inning single to win it.
Senior Breanna Ethridge tossed three innings allowing four hits with one run and one error and striking out one, before freshman Heather Turner came in for the remaining five innings, allowing three hits and striking out one.
Bethany 5, Plymouth State 4 (9 inn.): At Clermont, Fla., Allison Moylan pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief, giving up just three hits. Sophomore Caitlyn Miller of Leetook over with two down in the eighth and was saddled with the loss to drop to 1-1.
Mel Goss, Taylor Wood of Londonderry and Ashley Deyo of Dover had RBI hits.
