MANCHESTER - Even with temperatures dipping rapidly Saturday night, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats found a way to keep their bats warm.
One night after dropping their home opener, the Fisher Cats (7-2) got a pair of hits and 2 RBIs from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and two runs from Bo Bichette as they topped the Hartford Yard Goats, 5-2, on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Guerrero Jr. got New Hampshire on the board in the bottom of the third, stroking a single to center with the bases loaded. Patrick Cantwell and Jonathan Davis scored to give NH a 2-0 lead.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. followed Guerrero Jr. by grounding into a fielder's choice, scoring Bichette, to make it 3-0.
The Yard Goats (2-7) pulled to within one, getting single runs in the sixth and seventh on RBI singles from Yonathan Daza and Dom Nunez, respectively.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Fishers added some insurance. Bichette scored again on a bases-loaded walk to Cavan Biggio, and then Guerrero Jr. scored when Max Pentecost grounded into a double play.
Sean Reid-Foley (2-0) went 6 1/3 strong innings, giving up both Hartford runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Conor Fisk finished things up for New Hampshire, pitching the final scoreless 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one.
Weather permitting, the Yard Goats and Fisher Cats will close out their series today at 1:35 p.m. Jon Harris (1-0) will face Hartford's Parker French (0-1).
On Monday, the Fisher Cats will begin a series with Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
