CLAREMONT — A Vermont woman was killed in a crash on Chestnut Street Thursday morning.

The driver, Danuta Antosiewicz, 61, of Springfield, Vt., was pronounced dead at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont after she was brought by ambulance to the hospital.

Claremont police, fire and Golden Cross Ambulance responded to Chestnut Street near the Unity town line on Thursday at 6:12 a.m. for a reported single-vehicle crash.

Antosiewicz was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Chestnut Street when it left the eastbound side of the road and struck a large tree stump, police said.

The Jeep had no passengers and no other vehicles were involved, according to police.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol do not initially appear to be factors in the crash, police said. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Claremont police at (603) 542-7010.
