Thunder top Monarchs, take playoff series leadStaff report

The Adirondack Thunder did all of its scoring in the second period on its way to a 5-3 victory over the Manchester Monarchs in Game 3 of the ECHL North Division Finals Tuesday night at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, N.Y.
The Thunder lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1, entering Game 4 in Glens Falls on Thursday.
Colton White broke a 1-1 tie when he scored on the power play 6:18 into the second period to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage. Ryan Schmelzer, University of Maine product Conor Riley (short-handed), UMass Lowell product Terrence Wallin and Austin Orszulak also scored second-period goals for Adirondack, which took a 5-2 lead into the third frame.
Manchester’s Rob Hamilton knotted the score at 1-1 when he scored a power-play goal 4:18 into the middle stanza off assists from Alexx Privitera and Matt Leitner. Kevin Morris had a power-play goal and an assist and Tony Turgeon (power play) also scored for the Monarchs.
Manchester outshot the Thunder, 41-23.
Drew Fielding made 38 saves for Adirondack. Charles Williams and Evan Cowley combined for 18 saves for the Monarchs.
