The St. Anselm College softball team will make its first-ever NCAA Division II Championship Super Regional appearance when it hosts LIU Post for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.

The Hawks, who beat Merrimack College in the East 2 Regional final, and LIU Post will play Game 1 of the series Thursday at 3 p.m. at South Athletic Fields. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. and, if necessary, Game 3 will be played later that day at 3:30 p.m.

The winner of the series will qualify for the NCAA Division II College World Series.

No. 2 seeded St. Anselm (39-10-1) beat Merrimack twice and Southern New Hampshire University in the East 2 Regional. No. 4 seeded LIU Post (38-17) defeated Le Moyne College, Caldwell University and No. 1 seeded Adelphi University in the East 1 Regional.

The two teams have not met this season. The last time they met, the Pioneers defeated St. Anselm, 6-2, in eight innings in the Hawks’ 2017 season opener.

St. Anselm senior Amanda Bickford and sophomores Erin Thompson and Morgan Perry will enter the series fresh off receiving National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II CCA All-East Region honors on Monday.

Bickford, of Salem, and Thompson, of Newton, were both named to the All-East Region First Team. Perry was selected to the All-East Region Second Team.

Bickford, a four-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, led the NE-10 in hits (77) and ranked second in both batting average (.410) and doubles (14). Thompson, a two-time All-NE-10 selection who has been the Hawks’ primary designated hitter, has recorded a .362 batting average, 52 runs scored and 24 RBIs. Perry set a single-season program record for wins on her way to a 21-4 mark and 1.78 ERA. The right-hander has struck out 155 batters over 145 ⅔ innings.
