Bichette, Davis homers power Fishers past Yard Goats in 11 innings

May 16. 2018 2:55AM

Two New Hampshire Fisher Cats known more for their speed on the basepaths used the long ball to lift their team to an extra-inning, rain-delayed win on Tuesday night.

Bo Bichette tied the game in the seventh with a solo homer (his first of the season), and Jonathan Davis put the Fishers ahead for good in the 11th with a two-run shot as New Hampshire beat the host Hartford Yard Goats, 7-6, on Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

With New Hampshire down 5-4 entering the seventh, Bichette led off the inning with his homer to tie it. Davis finally untied it in the 11th with his second home run of the season and the designated runner on second base.

Justin Shafer (2-2) worked a season-high three innings of relief for the victory.

Following a one-hour-and-14-minute rain delay before the first pitch, the Yard Goats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Cavan Biggio got NH on the board with his league-leading 11th home run of the season.

A Bichette RBI single and a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sacrifice fly in the third tied the game at 3-all, but Hartford retook the lead in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs.

In the top of the sixth, Juan Kelly's RBI single scored Connor Panas to make it 5-4, setting the stage for Bichette's home run an inning later.

Dalton Rodriguez, Kirby Snead, and Shafer worked a combined six innings in relief of Fisher Cats starter Nick Tepesch. The three relievers allowed one unearned run on one hit, walked three and struck out five.

The series - and the Fisher Cats' road trip - conclude this morning with a 10:35 a.m. start at Dunkin' Donuts Park. New Hampshire righty Jordan Romano will go for his league-best seventh win against Hartford righty Jesus Tinoco.

The Fisher Cats will be back home at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Thursday night when they begin a four-game series against Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
