College Baseball: Franklin Pierce stays alive in East Regional; Penmen rained out

Starting pitcher Zach Hart allowed four hits, striking out eight, as Franklin Pierce University topped Le Moyne, 6-2, in a losers’ bracket game in the NCAA Championship East Regional on Saturday night in Pleasantville, N.Y.

The Ravens broke things open in the fifth on an Adam Chase two-run double, followed by a John Friday RBI triple.

Franklin Pierce, the tournament’s No. 5 seed, now faces top seed and host New Haven on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Finnerty Field in a losers’ bracket contest.

The winner of that game will play again at 7 p.m. against the loser of Sunday’s first game, which features second-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas and fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire.

Penmen postponed

SNHU’s NCAA East Regional winners’ bracket semifinal game against St. Thomas Aquinas, initially scheduled for Saturday night was postponed by rain.

The game will now be played Sunday at 11 a.m.
