SALEM — Visit America’s Stonehenge, a maze of chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places built in ancient times.
The Salem site is “most likely the oldest man-made construction in the United States — over 4,000 years old,” according to stonehengeusa.com. “Like Stonehenge in England, America’s Stonehenge was built by ancient people well versed in astronomy and stone construction. It has been determined that the site is an accurate astronomical calendar. It was, and still can be, used to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year.”
The trail is about a half mile long, and tours are self-guided.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with the last admission at 4 p.m.
