Hillsboro-Deering HS students claim they were joking about bringing guns to graduation

June 11. 2018 9:26PM

The two Hillsboro-Deering High School students arrested on Friday had spoken about bringing guns to their graduation and shooting people, according to police reports filed in connection to the case.

William Corey, 19, admitted to police he spoke about bringing a German sniper rifle to the graduation. John Thomas, 18, told police he spoke about bringing an .45 Airsoft gun.

Both Hillsborough residents were arrested Friday before the graduation. They face felony charges of criminal threatening.

According to documents filed in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North, the two told police they were joking and had no intentions of bringing guns to the graduation.

During a graduation walk-through on Thursday, fellow students heard them talk about bringing assault rifles and handguns to the graduation and shooting people.

Two students alerted Hillsborough police, who obtained warrants for the arrest of Corey and Thomas.
