CONCORD — A Merrimack man has pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of theft of public money, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray announced Friday.
David Laughton, 52, was charged with failing to notify the government of his mother’s death in 2005 and with taking more than $170,000 in Social Security and monthly pension benefit funds that continued to be deposited in her bank account for more than a decade, a news release said.
Laughton converted approximately $118,000 in Social Security benefits and $54,400 in federal pension benefits for his own use, the release said.
