CONCORD — Local marketing company Concord Direct will lay off around 40 employees this summer after losing a large customer.

The customer, which the company identified only as a large, national direct mailer, made up a significant portion of Concord Direct’s web printing division, which will now be shuttered.

“Web printing has been a unique capability of our business for many decades, and we will greatly miss the many contributions and talents of our people, who are truly some of the best in the business,” Peter Cook, the company’s CEO, said in a statement.

He added that Concord Direct will attempt to retain as many people as possible and transition them into other parts of its operations, including its digital print platform. Those who do lose their jobs will receive assistance in finding new jobs in the industry.

Formerly known as Concord Litho, the company was founded in the city more than 60 years ago.

While it was not able to maintain its web printing business, Cook said the company has had success over the past decade building its consulting, creative design, and direct mail offerings.
