MANCHESTER — The Reading Fightin’ Phils scored 10 runs on three swings of the bat on their way to a 13-3 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday night with an announced 4,039 fans in attendance at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fightin’ Phils (39-46) brought home five runs in the second inning. Leadoff hitter Jiandido Tromp drove in four with a one-out grand slam — the ball sneaked just inside the right-field pole — to give his team a 5-0 advantage. Teammate Jan Hernandez opened the game’s scoring with his single that brought home Zach Green, who led the inning off with a triple to center field.
Green blasted a three-run home run to center field in the sixth inning to make it 9-1 Reading. Deivi Grullon added a three-run shot of his own, to left field, in the eighth inning to build a 12-3 Phils lead.
Fisher Cats starter Tayler Saucedo took the loss in his Double-A debut. Saucedo, who was called up Wednesday from Advanced-A Dunedin (Fla.), allowed six earned runs on nine hits and two walks alongside six strikeouts over five innings.
New Hampshire’s three runs came off solo homer by Connor Panas, Cavan Biggio and Harold Ramirez.
Panas’ leadoff home run to right center field in the bottom of the fifth frame put the Fisher Cats on the board. Biggio and Ramirez belted back-to-back solo home runs in the following inning.
Utility player Nash Knight pitched the ninth inning for the Fisher Cats, allowing three hits and one earned run.
New Hampshire will host Reading again tonight at 7:05. Righty Jordan Romano (8-4, 4.11 ERA) is projected to start for the Fisher Cats. Left-hander JoJo Romero (6-6, 4.27 ERA) is Reading’s projected starter.
