Play at New England Amateur suspended

July 17. 2018 9:59PM

Hooksett's Matt Paradis, hot off qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, was tied for eighth when Tuesday's play in the 89th New England Amateur Championship in Portland, Maine, was suspended by severe weather.

But Paradis wasn't the top Granite Stater when organizers called it a day at 3:20 p.m. That distinction belonged to Jake Hollander of The Shattuck in Jaffrey, who was tied for third, sitting at 2-under-par through 12 holes at Portland Country Club.

Paradis, playing out of Concord Country Club, was at 1-under throught 12. Sitting at even par was Connor Greenleaf of Windham Country Club.

The tournament, originally scheduled for 72 holes, will be reduced to 54 holes. Round 1 play will resume today at 7:30 a.m. and the second round will start immediately after the completion of the first round and continue into Thursday morning.

After the conclusion of Round 2 on Thursday, the field will be reduced to the low 40 scorers and ties. A champion will be crowned after the conclusion of 54 holes.
