EPPING — Dead River Company has taken ownership of Buxton Oil, but the change won’t put the brakes on those bright yellow oil trucks.
The South Portland, Maine-based company plans to keep the Buxton Oil name and the employees who work out of its offices in Epping and Exeter.
“Our focus to the customers when we recently communicated the transfer of ownership really focused on the fact that they should experience very little to no change. We’re not looking to change the operation,” said Lisa Morrissette, Dead River’s director of marketing.
Buxton Oil was a family owned and operated heating and fuel oil dealer for more than 50 years before Dead River took ownership in June.
Donna Buxton, the oil company’s former owner, said she now plans to dedicate more time to Buxton Water Company, which she still owns.
“This will give me more time to focus on building the water company, which is what I’ve been wanting to do for years, but haven’t had the time,” she said.
Buxton Water provides pool water but also delivers drinking water to places like condominium associations, grocery stores, hospitals, and municipalities that may be experiencing well problems or other issues and need a temporary water supply.
“Without water, businesses have to close and people can’t afford to do that,” Buxton said.
Buxton Water has a plant in the Exeter area and other sources of water, which is processed and treated.
Morrissette said Dead River was honored that Buxton chose the company when she decided to sell.
“There are some strong synergies between the two organizations with a focus on being local and caring for customers and being responsive to customer’s needs,” she said. “We are very much alike in our approach to the customer service piece of this so it aligned nicely.”
Dead River serves Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont and has more than 50 offices. Morrissette said the company has eight locations in New Hampshire.
