Mass. man charged with aggravated DWI, drug possession and other offenses after 25-minute Bristol chase

JOSEPH BUCKLEY

BRISTOL — A Hull, Mass., man faces drug, DWI and other charges after leading police on a 25-minute chase early Thursday, police said.

Joseph Buckley, 56, of 37 Bay St., Apt. 3 in Hull, was arrested and charged with two counts of disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest, aggravated DWI, driving after revocation, simple assault on a police officer, possession of drugs, felony reckless conduct and with being a fugitive from Massachusetts, where he is wanted in Hingham and Hull after a similar chase in those towns, police said.

An officer saw a gray Ford Fusion with Massachusetts plates heading south on Lake Street, police said, which then made a U-turn and drove erratically onto West Shore Drive, police said. Becoming suspicious and pulling behind the car, the officer said he saw the license plate light on the Fusion was out and tried to pull the car over.

The car slowed and stopped in front of the Mayhew Center, police said. They said a woman got out of the car and fell down, and then the car drove off.

Police chased the car down West Shore Road, toward Bristol on numerous side streets, back to West Shore Road, into the Camelot Acres near Shackett’s Market, where it finally crashed into a woodpile in a backyard, police said.

Buckley refused bail and was held in the Grafton County jail pending arraignment Thursday in Grafton County Superior Court.
