PORTSMOUTH — A defense contractor expecting to employ as many as 75 people when it opens a manufacturing plant next year at Pease International Tradeport cited New Hampshire’s work force and the reception it received from political leaders among its reasons for locating here.
Revision Military broke ground Monday on its new warfighter equipment development center, a 47,000-square-foot facility dubbed the Center for Excellence, projected to be opened in the fall of next year. CEO Jonathan Blanshay said the company performed an in-depth survey of states throughout the country several years ago to decide where to put the advanced manufacturing center.
“New Hampshire stood out for a number of reasons. Particularly things like quality of work force, proximity to supply chain and to customers, partnering opportunities with other local businesses, and I think probably one of the biggest reasons was the welcome we got from various politicians in the state,” Blanshay said.
Blanshay said U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, former U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Gov. Chris Sununu provided help and facilitated conversations.
The Center of Excellence will house a warfighter experience and development lab with simulation capabilities, a rapid prototyping lab, an integrated soldier systems development lab and an armor prototyping and development facility.
Blanshay expects when the center is completed they will employ between 50 and 75 people in Portsmouth. The company has been a U.S. Army supplier since 2005 and employs more than 400 people.
Revision’s operational headquarters is in Essex Junction, Vt. There are a total of three facilities in Vermont, two in Canada and one in the United Kingdom.
Shaheen, Hassan and Ayotte were at the groundbreaking ceremony. Afterward, Ayotte said she met Blanshay when she served as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Ayotte said she is still a member of the company’s informal advisory board.
“I’m really thrilled to see Revision locate their Center of Excellence here in New Hampshire,” Ayotte said.
