Take in the views from Loon’s new disc golf course

Much like a regular game of golf in which players choose clubs based on distances and angles of a particular hole, disc players use a driver, mid-range disc and a putter.

LINCOLN — Calling it New Hampshire’s highest disc golf course, Loon Mountain Resort is inviting sight-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts to the summit of the 2,733-foot summit of Loon Peek.

The 18-hole, alpine-style course, in the White Mountain National Forest, gives players a chance to flex their muscles while taking in Granite State vistas. It’s mostly a downhill course, with wide-open fairways and challenging dogleg holes.

Seasoned disc throwers and beginners alike are welcome.

To reach the first hole, players ride what Loon Mountain officials bill as New Hampshire’s longest scenic Gondola Skyride. Signs then guide players to the start of the course at the top of the Exodus trail.

Loon Mountain Sports will offer disc rentals for $10 until 3:30 p.m., as it takes about two hours to complete the course, said Greg Kwasnik, communications manager for Loon Mountain Resort.

Summer hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through this Sunday. Then, from Monday, Aug. 27, through Oct. 14, gondola hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
