Hospice training offered in Exeter

EXETER — Rockingham VNA & Hospice says a terminal diagnosis can be a lonely experience. At a time when understanding is needed most, many hospice patients find themselves isolated, even from family and friends.

Hospice volunteers can help end that isolation, and the VNA & Hospice will teach those interested how to provide compassionate support to patients at the end of life as well as their families.

A hospice volunteer training session is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 7, through Oct. 26. A veteran-to-veteran hospice volunteer session is planned at the same time. The free classes will be at the VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road.

At least five people must sign up for the training to be held.

Volunteers will be trained on the hospice philosophy, listening skills, comfort measures, and grief and bereavement issues.

To register or for more information, contact Martha Carlson, hospice volunteer coordinator, at 772-2981 or (800) 540-2981 ext. 8949.
