ROCHESTER - Police are investigating what caused a city Department of Public Works truck to crash into two vehicles stopped at a traffic light on Columbus Avenue Monday morning.
Emergency rescue crews were called to the intersection with South Main Street at 10:29 a.m. Officers found that public works employee Jeff Wiggin, 48, of Strafford, was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra north when he rear-ended a Hyundai Sonata that was pushed into a Dodge Ram pickup.
Sgt. Randy Smith said they do not believe the city's truck malfunctioned, weather was not a contributing factor and Wiggin was not intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Wiggin and the woman driving the Hyundai were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup did not need to be transported and the vehicle was able to be safely driven from the scene.
Anyone who has information can call Officer Justin Worthley at 330-7128.
