NHIAA Roundup: Pinkerton, H/B spikers stay unbeaten

The Pinkerton Academy of Derry volleyball team continued its undefeated start to the season with a three-set win over Winnacunnet of Hampton at Hackler Gymnasium on Monday. The Astros (4-0) cruised in all three games for the sweep, winning 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19.

Amelia Graves was on top of her game with 18 kills for Pinkerton while Ella Dandrade doled out 32 assists. Kylie Davis provided the Astros a lift on the serve with 16 service points and six aces.

Winnacunnet (0-3) had Grace Cooper provide four service points and Emily Wheeler posted three blocks.

Hollis/Brookline 3, Merrimack 0: In Hollis, the Cavaliers stayed unbeaten (3-0) with a sweep. The scores were 25-10, 25-15 and 25-13. Kaleigh Whalen had seven kills and one ace, Brodie Kelly added four kills, Natalie Cook had six aces, Sammie Sheppard added eight digs and Angelina Leonard chipped in seven assists.

Goffstown 3, Manchester Memorial 1: In Manchester, the Grizzlies improved to 1-2 by beating the Crusaders, 25-23, 26-28, 25-15 and 25-15. Liz Galletta was the leading scorer for the winners and Kaytlin Young, had an outstanding defensive and passing performance.

Bishop Guertin 3, Keene 0: In Keene, Julia Pascucci filled up the stat sheet in the win for the Cardinals (2-1), posting seven kills, 12 assists and three aces. Paola Matos (13 aces, nine digs) and Rita Dow (seven kills, three blocks) also got involved for Bishop Guertin. The Cardinals held the Blackbirds (0-3) under 11 points in every game.

Trinity 3, Stevens 0: In Claremont, the Pioneers (1-1) swept by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-15. Top Trinity performers were Caroline Vanderburg, with 23 service points, seven aces and six digs; Taylor Hasselbach, with six kills, five digs, four aces and three assists; Josie Zelensky, with seven kills, five digs and four aces, and Kim Tran, who had 15 digs, two kills and two aces.

Field hockey

Derryfield 6, Hollis/Brookline 0: In Manchester, junior Lindsey Stagg notched her second hat trick of the season to lead the Cougars (5-0). Stagg, who scored her goals in the second half, added two assists.

Hannah Perlberg scored twice and Maggie Cissel potted one for Derryfield, and goalie Olivia Bollengier notched the shutout. Goalie Abbie Fitzgerald played well for the Cavaliers (0-4), posting 10 saves.
