One win away: Support the Fisher Cats

With a win tonight, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats would capture their third Eastern League championship.

It would be great to have a packed stadium cheering them on as they do it.

The Cats won the first two games of the Eastern League Championship Series on the road against the Akron RubberDuckies. (Minor league baseball team names are awesome.) They now have three chances to win the title at home at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats have averaged just over 5,000 fans per game this season, fifth in the 12-team AA Eastern League. Owner Art Solomon oversaw a nearly $1 million renovation of the ball park last year, helping to enhance the fan experience.

Sports fans around here have been pretty spoiled this century, with five Super Bowls, three World Series, a Stanley Cup, and an NBA championship. The Manchester Monarchs won the Calder Cup in their final year in the AHL. The Fisher Cats already have two titles in the team’s short history. But we’re not yet tired of all the winning.

Manchester’s minor league teams are civic resources beyond the economic activity they generate. They are sources of pride, shared experiences, and an affordable family night out.

Some of the players on the field will make it to the majors. For many, this series will be the pinnacle of their professional baseball careers. Let’s cheer them on to victory.

Let’s go, Fisher Cats!
