60th anniversary: Mr. and Mrs. Thurber

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Thurber of Manchester recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The children and grandchildren of Allen and Elinor (Cheney) hosted an anniversary celebration at the Bedford Village Inn.

Allen and Elinor graduated from Concord High School in 1951. Allen enlisted in the Navy, and upon his return to Concord, was employed at Concord National Bank. Elinor was employed at Concord Savings Bank upon graduation from high school. They were married on Aug. 30,1958.

They moved to Boston, where Allen graduated from Bentley College. While in Boston, Elinor worked at the First National Bank of Boston. They returned to New Hampshire in 1960 and have remained here ever since.

They were blessed with five children: Cindy Pratte of Manchester; Douglas Thurber of Manchester, deceased in 2009; Scott Thurber of Manchester; U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Major Bill Thurber of Tampa, Fla.; and Steve Thurber of Framingham, Mass. Their grandchildren total eight: four girls and four boys. They were recently informed that their first great-grandchild would be born around the first of April.

Allen retired in 2000 after 40 years with Lockheed Sanders. Elinor was a stay-at-home mom after their first child was born.
