NEWINGTON - A new Sig Sauer handgun the company says honors veterans, first responders and the American flag, comes with "STAND" laser-engraved at the business end to "inspire patriotism," the firearms manufacturer says.
The 9mm P938 STAND also has a likeness of the American flag on the ejection port side and the custom black grips feature a flag in flight-embossed medallion.
"The STAND is the obvious choice to represent the heritage and tradition of American citizens who proudly stand for our great American flag," says Project Manager Paul Snyder in a marketing video.
Company officials say they teamed with United Sporting Companies to create the gun and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Honored American Veterans Afield, an organization that works with wounded veterans and active-duty military personnel.
Some of the money also will be donated to Concerns of Police Survivors to help the families of fallen law-enforcement officials.
"It is important to us at Sig Sauer to find ways to work with service organizations like H.A.V.A. and C.O.P.S. in order to support our injured veterans and the families of fallen law enforcement officers. That commitment is at the very core of Sig Sauers's DNA," said Tom Taylor, chief marketing officer and executive vice president of commercial sales, in a statement Thursday.
Brad Johnson, CEO of United Sporting Companies, said veterans and first responders are the finest examples of what the country has to offer.
"Their selflessness and commitment to put the needs of others above their own deserves our admiration and eternal gratitude, and we should all do what we can to support those who have given so much," he said.
According to sigsauer.com, the gun is "a 1911-inspired 9mm that's easy to conceal and even easier to shoot."
Calls to the company were not returned.
The gun is available in New Hampshire at Manchester Firing Line on Brown Avenue, Shooters Outpost in Hooksett, Bass Pro Shops and Dick's Sporting Goods.
The third firearm Sig Sauer introduced last week, the P938's suggested retail price is $815.
On Monday, Sig Sauer introduced a High-Capacity Micro-Compact P365, a striker-fired 9mm pistol promoted as "the ultimate concealed-carry pistol."
On Wednesday, the company introduced its new high-performance ASP20 break barrel air rifle.
