Police: Arsonists set fire to dumpster, portable toilet in Manchester

April 14. 2018 12:30PM

MANCHESTER — Manchester fire and police officials are investigating two arson fires at South Willow Street business properties.

The latest blaze was Friday at 2:52 p.m. when fire officials responded to a dumpster fire behind the T.J. Maxx plaza at 933 S. Willow St.

The property owner supplied to Manchester police video that shows two people intentionally lighting the dumpster on fire.

This caused $5,000 in damages to the electrical service that supplies the shopping plaza, officials said.

The MFD’s Fire Marshal's Office and Manchester police are working to identity the individuals responsible.

Authorities were already looking into a Monday arson fire that significantly damaged a portable toilet at 655 S. Willow St., the site of the former Osram Sylvania plant.

Police officials said they have obtained video of an unidentified person jumping a fence into the construction site about 10:30 p.m. Monday and then running away from the portable toilet as it was on fire.

Officials urged the public who shop, live or work in the area to be vigilant and report to Manchester police anyone they see lighting fires.
