Former Concord man sentenced for sex abuse of young girl

RONALD "RENNY" BURR

CONCORD — A former Concord man was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl for four years during the early 1990s.

Ronald “Renny” Burr, now 55, pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault.

The victim was younger than 9 years old when the abuse in Concord started in 1990.

The victim reported the abuse to authorities in Tennessee after she moved to that state. Police there reached out to Concord authorities, who began an investigation in 2016.

Officials arrested Burr in April.

Merrimack County officials confirmed that a statement from the victim, now in her 30s, was read into the record Tuesday.

Burr apologized in the courtroom Tuesday, but Superior Court Judge John Kissinger said he had done irreparable damage to the victim.

Concord police and county prosecutors confirmed that they were seeking a negotiated plea deal with Burr to spare the victim the added trauma of a trial.

The original charges were five counts of aggravated sexual assault, which carried up to 15-year prison terms, and two felony sex assault counts that carry up to 7 1/2 years in prison for each.

Tennessee authorities said they've uncovered evidence that suggests more assaults may have taken place in that state, but officials said the statute of limitations has run out.
