SALEM — A Massachusetts duo was arrested Monday after police said they stole chainsaws from a Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
Joseph St. Laurent, 36, of Methuen, Mass. was caught by a police K9 late Monday afternoon in Methuen, Mass., after he fled into the woods near the Route 28 store.
Jennifer Tricca, 41, of Lawrence, Mass., allegedly was waiting in a car in the store’s parking lot and tried to drive off when she saw police arrive, police said.
Tricca was charged with conspiracy and disobeying a police officer.
Police were called to the 541 So. Broadway store for a report of a man attempting to remove chainsaws.
Loss prevention workers followed the man – later identified as St. Laurent – as officers arrived, police said.
St. Laurent fled into nearby woods before he was caught hiding in some tall grass, police said.
Police determined St. Laurent was in Methuen, Mass., when he was found and called Methuen police to arrest him, police said.
He is being held on a fugitive from justice charge and there is no timetable for his return to New Hampshire.
St. Laurent was charged with two felony counts of willful concealment and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest or detention.
One of the willful concealment charges stems from an incident on the previous day, according to police.
Police said Tricca was arrested in the parking lot.
Police said additional charges are expected.
Tricca was released on $2,500 cash bail and will be arraigned Monday, Oct. 31, in Salem circuit court.
