BARNSTEAD — Police are searching for a burglar who left behind some solid clues for investigators.
In addition to images from surveillance video Barnstead police posted on the department’s Facebook page, Chief Paul Poirer said Thursday that a knife left at one scene and a pry bar found at the other are being checked for fingerprints.
Poirer also posted a picture of the knife used to pry off a screen. The images had only led to general inquiries as of Thursday, but Poirer was optimistic the video and possible fingerprints could make it a quick investigation.
“It’s a rare occasion somebody leaves something behind, but it happens every now and then,” Poirer said, adding he had once found a driver’s license at a crime scene.
The knife was sent to the state crime lab for fingerprint analysis and Poirer planned to send the pry bar as well.
The items were left behind after break-ins at the Berkshire Hathaway real estate offices at the corner of Route 28 and Colony Drive and Patriot Pizza on Route 28. The break-ins were reported Monday and believed to have taken place the night before, Poirer said.
Poirer said the folding knife was used to pry off a window screen for the intruder to get inside the pizza restaurant, where he walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The pry bar was found at the real estate office, where the intruder got inside but nothing was taken, Poirer said.
Poirer said he posted the image of the knife as a long shot, hoping somebody recognize it and be able to link it to the owner. Police are also asking anyone with information to call the department at (603) 269-8100. A cash reward is available through Concord Area Regional Crime line for information leading to an arrest, police said.
