MANCHESTER — A Queen City woman walking home Friday afternoon was robbed on Grove Street by a man brandishing a large hunting knife. The man made off with her money and identification.
A witness to the attack reported the robbery about 5 p.m. in a call to police.
A Hispanic man with a knife demanded her purse and fled with an unspecified amount of money from her wallet, said Manchester Police Sgt. Brian Cosio.
The victim, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke with the New Hampshire Sunday News about the robbery Saturday.
She said she was walking home from the Dollar Tree on Wilson Street when she was approached from behind by a man riding a bicycle. He hopped off and tried to snatch her purse, she said.
“He had this big, dull-looking knife and I screamed to him and said, ‘Give me back my pocketbook!’” the victim said.
“He dropped the knife right in front of me,” she said. “I think I might have spooked him; otherwise, who knows, he might have stabbed me.”
She described the thief as having short brown hair and said he stood about 5-feet-6-inches tall.
The Valley Grove Apartments resident suffered a bruised arm and shoulder where she was grabbed by her assailant, but she did not require any medical attention.
“I hope people will come forward if they saw something when this happened to me or if this sounds like someone who’s done it before,” she said.
