MANCHESTER — Police called to a Myrtle Street address early Wednesday to investigate a report of squatters in the basement arrested to men who police said had been looking for a place to sleep.

According to a news release, police found Richard Mayo, 40, and Kenneth Kirkpatrick, 33 — both with no fixed address — at about 5:40 a.m.

Both men were charged with criminal trespass, police said. Mayo also was charged with possession of a controlled drug after police found methamphetamine in his pocket during a search, police said.

Mayo appeared in Hillsborough County Superior Court North on Wednesday, police said. Kirkpatrick was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Manchester circuit court on Oct. 24.
