CORY DANIS

CONCORD — A Rochester man who federal officials say sent a pornographic image of a teen girl to a New York company in the hope it would be made into a canvas wall print pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single count of possession of child pornography.

Cory Danis, 27, of 2 Harmony Way in Rochester, waived indictment while pleading guilty in U.S. District Court in Concord, acting United States Attorney John J. Farley said Tuesday.

Danis was released from custody following the plea hearing. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.

As part of the plea deal, Danis faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for possessing laptops, tablets and external hard drives containing eight pornographic images of children.

According to court documents, on July 14, 2015, the FBI Public Access Line was contacted by a man identified as Joshua Kerby of Lynbrook, N.Y., who operates a company called Life Script LLC. The firm converts photographs into canvas prints.

According to court documents, on July 13 a Life Script employee in India uploaded a photograph submitted to the company website. The photograph — which court documents state depicted a fully naked teenage girl with her legs spread, was deemed inappropriate by the employee, who flagged the image and sent it to the company’s customer service department.

The person submitted the photo using the name John Smith, listing an address in Rochester and a phone number with a 603 area code. Court documents state shipping instructions that accompanied the order called for the finished canvas print to be sent to a Cory Danis at the same address and phone number.

Kerby forwarded the image to law enforcement officials, who then submitted the picture to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The group recognized the picture as a “known image from Lithuania,” according to court documents. Records show billing information provided to police by Life Script LLC showed a credit card was used to place the order, and records from Northeast Credit Union showed a credit card issued to Cory Danis included a charge on July 13, 2015, to Life Script, LLC.

On Nov. 1, 2015, Rochester police responded to a call for “shots fired” at Danis’ address in Rochester, the same address where the order from Life Script was to be shipped. Upon arrival, police determined Danis had accidentally shot himself in the leg. According to police, Danis confirmed his telephone number, which was the same number given when the pornographic print order was placed.

On Nov. 19, 2015, a federal search warrant was obtained to search Danis’ residence for evidence of child pornography. According to court documents, eight known child pornography images were found on laptops, tablets and external hard drives seized from the residence, including seven copies of the image sent to Life Script, and a second image. A forensic examination also found an image attached to an email depicting a minor female performing a sexual act on an adult female.
