LONDONDERRY — A Pembroke woman caught on video taking a purse from a chair at a crowded restaurant allegedly did it again at a Wendy’s in Manchester two days later, police say.
Video of the June 20 theft at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant on Route 102 quickly went viral shared on social media. The alleged star of the clip, Elizabeth Santos, 30, was arrested Wednesday at Valley Street jail and charged with purse snatching, theft by deception, identity fraud and fraudulent use of a credit card, police said.
The video shows a woman wearing a dark sweatshirt and orange dress arriving alone. She then slides a purse off the back of the chair of a woman at the bar before passing restaurant waitstaff and leaving with the bag.
Londonderry police posted the video to Facebook and it quickly garnered hundreds of views and comments.

Santos also is facing a purse snatching charge in Manchester for allegedly taking a bag at the Wendy’s on South Willow Street on June 22, according to police. As in Londonderry, Santos is accused of taking a pocketbook hanging on the back of a chair.
But in Manchester, the victim, a 40-year-old mother of two, noticed and chased the thief, later identified as Santos, as she fled the Wendy’s to a waiting SUV. The mother suffered minor injuries when she was thrown to the ground reaching through an open window for her bag back as the male driver sped away.
