MANCHESTER — A Chester, Mass., man faces assault and weapon charges after Manchester police said he charged at an officer with a knife early Saturday morning.
Koury Machado, 29, will be arraigned Monday in 9th Circuit Court Manchester Division on charges of second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, falsifying physical evidence and a probation/parole violation.
Officials said this all stems from Machado’s actions after Manchester officer Alex Martens came to break up a fight in front of McGarvey’s Bar on Elm Street at 1 a.m. Saturday.
While Martens was separating the combatants, Machado came up behind him with a knife. Police officials said a bouncer working at the bar tackled Machado before he could reach Martens.
Machado then ran from the scene and also tried to stab a 30-year-old male, officials said.
Officer Matthew Nocella saw Machado in the area of 15 High St. Officials said Machado threw the knife into nearby bushes before Nocella placed him under arrest.
Police arrested three others for their involvement in the fight outside the bar. They are Zed Cordeiro, 27, Fall River, Mass., for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest; Alex Stoltman, 21, Manchester, for simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest; and John Funk, 21, Manchester, for simple assault, disorderly conduct, hindering apprehension and resisting arrest.
Cordeiro, Stoltman and Funk are all scheduled to appear in the Manchester court on Sept. 28.
