SALEM — A Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday after police said they found drugs and a loaded weapon in a hotel room where he was staying.

Frank Miller, 31 of Salem, Mass., is facing charges of possession of a controlled drug, falsifying physical evidence, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a handgun with altered markings.

Miller also was wanted on an active bench warrant.

He is being held in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Salem police said detectives went to the Red Roof Inn Thursday after receiving a report of suspicious activity and heavy foot traffic coming out of one of the rooms. After looking to see who was staying there, police said they learned of Miller’s bench warrant and went to take him into custody.

Police said detectives arrived at the hotel, located Miller and told him that he was under arrest.

While being taken into custody, police said Miller took a loaded syringe from his pocket. Detectives told him to put it down, but Miller allegedly squirted it at the officers, police said.

The unknown liquid did not hit the detectives and Miller was taken into custody, police said.

Several baggies of suspected heroin (fentanyl) also were found in his possession, police said, along with drug paraphernalia.

While searching the room, police said they found a .40 caliber handgun with serial numbers scratched off. The handgun was loaded and additional ammunition was found in the room, police said.

Miller was held at the Rockingham County jail and was due to be arraigned at the 10th Circuit Court on Friday.
