WOLFBORO — A Carroll County man who was being booked for DWI was rushed to the hospital after he began showing signs of a drug overdose, according to police.

Nathan Souther, 23, of Tuftonboro, was arrested Tuesday after Wolfeboro police responded to a report of a serious car accident at 31 Waumbeck Road shortly before 11:30 p.m.

According to police, Souther turned from North Main Street onto Waumbeck Road and accelerated before slamming on the brakes and crashing into a roadside stonewall.

After determining that the driver was impaired, police arrested Souther at the scene and took him to the police station, where he became non-verbal and exhibited other symptoms consistent with a possible overdose, police said.

After being examined by staff at Huggins Hospital, Souther was taken to Carroll County jail in Ossipee. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 8 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 3rd Circuit Court, District Division Ossipee.
