MANCHESTER - Updated, 12:33 p.m. Strong winds toppled the approximate 70-foot pine in the freak accident that occurred about 2 p.m. in the southbound high-speed lane, killing a Sanbornton man, Manchester District Fire Chief Jim Michael said.
Updated, 4:17 p.m. Weather forecasters say rain will taper off today, but flooding remains a concern.
ALLENSTOWN - Updated, 11:20 a.m. Some families residing near the Suncook River have evacuated because of minor flooding. The town's Emergency Operations Center was opened this morning.

BARRINGTON - Updated, 12:29 p.m. Maine State Police say the body of a missing New Hampshire woman has been found in Clinton, a short distance from where her abandoned car was found along Interstate 95 in December. She appears to have died of hypothermia, police said.

DERRY - In the days since Cheryl Maher exposed Utah State Rep. Kevin Garn's relationship with her 25 years ago, her motives have come into question. Garn, a longtime Republican lawmaker and practicing Mormon, resigned his post Saturday after confirming Maher's allegations -- that she sat naked in a hot tub with him when she was 15 -- were "essentially" true.

MANCHESTER - Updated, 4:09 p.m. The fire at 261-263 Second Street started shortly after 2:30 a.m. The residents at the more damaged side, 263 Second St., were awake at the time and evacuated quickly, said the landlord, Bill Morin of New Boston.

A city pawn shop owner was arraigned yesterday in Manchester District Court on two charges of receiving stolen property and police said more charges are expected against Albert Greenhalgh, 42, of 2 Ross Drive, Londonderry.

Yes, things were falling willy-nilly in Manchester back in 1899, and early in that year there was an ominous indication of what lay in store for law-abiding citizens.
